Beyond Bourbon

Produced by nicichris

August 4, 2015

When someone says they’re going to visit New Orleans, the four B’s automatically comes to mind: Bourbon St., Booze, Boobs, and Beignets.  New Orleans and for that matter Louisiana have so much more to offer if you step beyond Bourbon St.  Here is a list of five attractions outside of Bourbon St. that you should visit on your next trip.

Frenchman’s St. and the French Market

Get off Bourbon St. and go explore Frenchman’s St., the night life on Frenchman is just as comparable to that other street.Hop in and out of different jazz clubs, and sample the local cuisine.

The Swamp

Wanna see a real alligator before for it is fried and served up on your plate? Then take a swamp tour. There are several tour companies located in the city that will take you on a day trip to the bayou. If you can handle the muggy weather and the mosquitoes, then this activity is calling your name!

Plantation Tours

New Orleans was once a main port of call in the south for the salve trade, and the land outside of the city is known for its sugar, tobacco, and cotton plantations. Many of these plantations still stand to this very day and offer tours of the big house, slave quarters and the land on which is built. One of the most popular plantation tours is the Whitney Plantation, which has been turned into a museum. But for a different perspective of history, look into the Laura Plantation, whose owners were Creole, this is considered a black owned plantation.

The Mighty Mississippi

Hop on the old time steamboat and take a scenic ride down the Mississippi River. You will experience travel as is once was all with the creature comforts of the modern world.Several of the boats offer lunch and dinner dining, and of course there’s always cocktails on hand.

Audubon Park and Zoo

Audubon park is a lovely way to spend the afternoon strolling through the flora and fauna, and while you are there, visit the zoo.All the wild and crazy animals are contained here, not like they are on Bourbon Street.During the summer months you can find festivals and music in the park.

New Orleans is a great city with much more to offer than plastic beads. If you are looking to plan a trip take a look at neworleansonline.com for more information and ideas! As they say in Naw’lins….“laissez le bon temps roulez”, let the good times roll!
